The Future of County Nursing Homes in NYS

In August 2013, CGR released a new, statewide study, funded by the New York State Health Foundation, of county-owned nursing homes outside NYC. The year-long study is timely, given concerns by many counties about the fiscal sustainability of their homes.

The study was conducted in an era marked by the increasing shift of nursing home beds from the public to the private sector. The study documents the results of previous decisions to close, sell or maintain county homes, and provides data-driven policy guidance to the state and to counties deciding the future of their homes.
