The Future of Fire Service Rosendale, NY

In the heart of the Hudson Valley, the Town of Rosendale, NY, relies on five independent fire districts. These all-volunteer departments answer the call to action an average of 20 times each month. However, these departments face a gauntlet of challenges: escalating call volumes, soaring costs, a decline in volunteer numbers, and the ever-increasing demands of modern firefighting training.
To help the departments overcome these obstacles, CGR documented the departments' service demands, evaluated their operations, apparatus and equipment, and pinpointed their future capital needs. The study resulted in recommendations including the strategic consolidation of districts, the formalization of inter-district aid, and pathways to long-term capital savings. The community is actively engaged in charting the next chapter for fire services, ensuring that these vital services become stronger for the future.
