Exploring the Clean Energy Transition

Clean Energy

What does the transition to clean energy mean for the Rochester region? How can our workforce be optimally prepared for the new jobs and changes to come? These are some of the questions CGR will be exploring as part of a new project with the Climate Solutions Accelerator.

CGR and the Accelerator will gather information and input from workers, job seekers, employers, labor leaders, educators and other stakeholders. We are looking to understand the current clean energy workforce, trends and future needs, training and skills gaps, barriers, and current and needed pathways into the workforce. We will explore these issues for the population as a whole and for racial and ethnic groups, people with language needs, disadvantaged communities as defined by New York State, and for MWBEs (Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises) and for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOBs).  If you are interested in providing input, please contact CGR or the Accelerator.

With the help of our partner MRB Group, we will also quantify the region’s clean energy economy in terms of firms and employment, and examine historic and projected employment trends within relevant industries.

This project will help the Accelerator to catalyze local efforts to address climate change, analyze regional assets and barriers, and meet the needs of our region in an equitable manner.
