This website is designed to share information with the community during the review of the Tompkins County criminal justice system and that system’s impact on the operations of the Tompkins County Jail.
CGR presented their final report to the Tompkins County Legislature Jail Study Committee Meeting on July 20, 2017 in Legislature Chambers.
The project team, led by CGR, will conduct a review of existing criminal justice and jail operations in Tompkins County through interviews and data analysis. CGR will present the gathered information to the Jail Study Committee as the basis for the discussion of options. Key findings will include efficiency opportunities, potential opportunities to expand alternatives to incarceration programs, and best practices from similar communities in and out of New York State.
The process is being overseen by the Jail Study Committee, with assistance from the Project Team, led by CGR, a nonprofit management consulting organization with extensive experience in New York and nationally addressing issues related to criminal justice systems, alternatives-to-incarceration, and project jail population assessments. The Jail Study Committee includes members from the Legislature, Sheriff’s Office, Probation and Administration. The members will have a chance to review and comment on reports prior to public distribution.
The Jail Study Committee and CGR encourage public engagement in this process. Please submit your comments, questions and other feedback by clicking here and visiting the public engagement page.
